For far too long now wrestling in Australia has been far overlooked we have the most talented wrestlers in world. Only in the last the few years we have started to get noticed with many more Australian wrestlers get given more opportunities to travel to other promotions that are much more well known which is a huge milestone.
The 4 Nations member Mick Moretti’s social media promo that he filmed called “your gonna notice us” went viral and it was true because after that the world did.
That video caught the attention of Will Ospreay to see what all the fuss was about, from that point onwards we have not looked back with serval Australian working on such a high level such as the Iiconic's Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy, NXT UK Womens Champion Toni Storm and the newest editions of NXTs performance centre Jonah Rock and Elliot Sexton
Some of the well known Australian wrestlers are travelling the independent scene like Tenille Dashwood formerly known as Emma from the WWE. Now back to the headline of article why the Australian women are best in the world, they have consistently stole the show at many australian independent events whether it be Shazza Mckenzie defending the womens divsion against men on the PWA scene and Shimmer or even Madison Eagles on why she is the “master of wrestling” owning the local Aussie scene.
Even the few appearances that Indi Hartwell and Facebrooke made locally, it is getting harder and harder to deny the fact that they are the best but I will continue to say that they have got sporadic appearances from former WWE women’s champions Victoria and Melina and they where singing the highest praises after their matches with our aussie women .
Not just because of the sake of this article but every second show, I’m looking forward to the women’s matches the most, even this weekend I said for Wrestling Go’s show I believe that Jessica Troy vs Tree Hugger Luchi will be match of the night by a mile.
I have asked some questions to a handful of wrestlers with the extreme of asking some of the ladies who has been doing it the longest and some that has only recently made there debut QUOTES from wrestlers that I have spoken too
Shazza Mckenzie=10 years of experience
When you first started how many of you’s were there?
“I started in AWF and there was 4 girls there, Bombshell Bo, Harley Wonderland, Mighty Mel
At PWA was Jessie Mckay (Billie Kay), Madison eagles and KC Cassidy (Peyton Royce) but then there was also a handful of girls from other places like Aurora, Kathryn Nixon and then there’s all the interstate girls like Tenille Dashwood , Vixsin, Sara Jay, Savannah Summers and a whole bunch more”
What do you think has been biggest factor the Australian women’s division thriving?
“”The biggest factor is having Madison Eagles leading the charge for all of us to change women’s wrestling and as a result giving us more exposure by Travelling””
What I got from that from Shazza is that every promotion only had a couple girls per promotion and didn’t have the girls never got the chance to have a proper women’s division so unless you had the guts to put yourself out there like Madison Eagles did and by doing that Madison was the Shimmer champion but just under 1.5 years
Frankie B= Yet to debut
What do you think has been the biggest difference in women’s division since you started training?
“ I started training in late 2016
When I started I was the only girl in my class, training with about 5 boys some triple my size. That wasn't the issue but the issue was that Womens wrestling was considered a novelty or a "toilet break". Now the dynamic has changed so much that women are respected not because they have this amazing ability for a 'girl' but just amazing in general.”
For the likes of Frankie she seems to be very blessed and grateful with for many incredible girls to work with in the future whom has a wealth knowledge to share with her and will definitely wreck benefits and I’m sure with some hard work she will continue to progress and see her in the ring later this year .
Savvanah Summers =12 years’ experience
Why do you think the Australian girls have got more exposure compared to previous years?
“ I think that the girls from Australia have taken it upon themselves to spend the money and travel the world getting their names out there. It’s sad that a lot of female talent has had to go to that extreme to even be noticed in the world of wrestling but that’s what it’s taken and it’s definitely starting to pay off. We have always had the talent and now the world is starting to notice.”
I understand from what Savannah said that the right now the current girls are more driven to get themselves out there and as a result getting recognition by a different audience overseas like I mentioned before the girls going to shimmer but I would to add a couple more names that can be put in that category the Jasmine Vittora, Kelly Anne and by travelling overseas to get more experience and exposure .
Kingsley= 6 months experience
What was the biggest change since you passed your tryout from when tryout compared to your debut?
“My confidence in the ring and becoming more and more comfortable as wrestler”
Would you say your confidence is up because of the love and support from and trainers?
“My confidence is up because it’s not just the coaches but the trainees that I work with every week are supportive and consistently help to improve myself with my in ring ability but also character work.”
Kingsley showing some love to the positive energy to many of her peers and speaking from on her own personal experience on how she is travelling
I’ve been to a try out and also say that everyone was very encouraging and some of the peers questioning about my tryout and saying finishing a try out is a huge accomplishment.
In conclusion I would like to say thank you to everyone that helped put this article together and don’t take advantage of how lucky we are with our ladies performing to such a high standard as before you know they will be gone.
